Terms of service

Last updated 16 October 2026

These terms cover your use of the TextMeNot app and the textmenot.app website. By installing the app you agree to them. They are written to be read, not skimmed.

What TextMeNot is

TextMeNot is a messaging app for Android that screens messages and calls from senders you do not know, using patterns that run on your phone. It is a filter, not a guarantee. Some junk will get through and, occasionally, a real message will be set aside. That is why screened messages are kept in the Screened tab for you to review, and never deleted on arrival.

Who can use it

You must be 18 or older. The app is offered in the United States first; other countries follow as carriers are tested.

Free use and paid plans

Your responsibilities

Emergency and time-sensitive messages

TextMeNot never screens messages from your contacts, from senders you have written to, one-time codes, or emergency alerts. Even so, do not rely on any messaging app as your only channel for urgent matters.

Your content and our software

Your messages are yours. The app, its patterns, and the website are ours and are licensed to you for personal use on your own devices. You may not resell or redistribute them.

No warranty and limits on liability

The app is provided as is. We do not promise it will catch every junk message or call, or that it will never set aside a real one. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for missed messages, missed calls, or losses arising from screening decisions, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Some places do not allow these limits, in which case they apply as far as the law permits.

Ending

You can stop using the app at any time by setting another messaging app as default and uninstalling. We may end access for misuse. Sections on liability and governing law survive.

Privacy

How the app handles your data is described in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.

Changes to the service or these terms

We may change the app and these terms. Material changes will be announced in the app before they take effect. Continued use after that means you accept the change.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, United States, and disputes are heard in its courts, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If any part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest stands. These terms and the privacy policy are the whole agreement between us about TextMeNot.
